Covering “Titanium” – Get Flak To Get Stronger

The song by Sia Furler and David Guetta resonates with me, so I just had to make a cover of it.

To me, it’s about how life gives you flak. And how you will survive and get stronger from that.

When you listen to the words, and picture the situation behind them, you will see the protagonist on a tight spot. Mental bullets bouncing around, he/she rising above the danger by sheer willpower and believe. The song is about holding ground, declaration of one’s independence and intent. About conquering all the obstacles.

After the script was read and digested, the play began. When singing, I was having a “don’t give a f***” attitude to sound more like the person in question. It’s good to have a toolbox of emotions nearby from where to draw.

Generally, I like different colors in tone, contrasts like loud and quiet, distorted and clean. And, on this song, I put all the cracks and human imperfections on display to move me closer, make me more naked to the listener, to be more “there” with you.

With only guitar and some distortion backing one up, voice up front in the mix, it’s easy to feel vulnerable. But that’s just one of the beauties in life.

Ambient and Angle

After I decided to start publishing my music, I thought about how would I tie all the pieces of music together visually. Would I use the same set of fonts all the time, one specific color, would I create a Raindropper logo and plaster it on all the record covers?

Those all seemed too constraining, thus I opted for a more subtle idea: angle. So, let’s sneak one specific angle in all the images from now on.

The angle ended up being 53 degrees. To my eye, it just seemed the most pleasing one. The bonding angle of hydrogen atoms on a water molecule is roughly twice that (circa 104,45) so my eye missed the target with a degree or so.

Oops, here’s Void Saturday with a slightly skewed angle…

That Was A Black Swan in Norway

A Black Swan is a seemingly random event having a huge impact. It’s nearly impossible to predict one coming.

We did not foresee the success of Harry Potter, the tragic of 9/11 or what happened in Norway last weekend.

After a Black Swan, we start analyzing and searching for reasons which led to the event.

Yes, I’ve been reading the book by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. Check it out if that’s your sort of thing!

…the message given by Glenn Beck and his team resonates with me.

He talks about personal empowerment, being decent to one and the other, questioning with boldness, honesty… Those are all universal values and principles I can gladly adhere to.

In addition, I’ve learnt a lot from him on a myriad of subject matters. One important lesson being: “Do your own homework, do not trust the so-called experts, not even me.”

And, his style is an impeccable mix of jokes and facts and impersonations. And^2, he’s totally on the pulse of new tech. And^3, he admires Muse.

Thus, he deserves this plug for his new GBTV!
